EHOA Accredited Primary Course in Food Safety

Taking Bookings Now for our next course Starting May 28th  2012.

The course will be presented over two half days, 09.30 – 13.30 (May 28th & 29th)

A short exam will be conducted on the afternoon of the second day 14.30 – 15.30

This course includes a HACCP module. It is designed and approved by the Environmental Health Office and covers your legal food safety requirement.

The course is aimed at all personnel involved in the catering, retail or food manufacturing environment, suppliers of raw materials and contractors to the food industry. No prior learner knowledge of food safety is required. This course focuses on the requirements of the Regulation (EC) 852/2004 Hygiene of Foodstuffs Regulations and FSAI Training Level 2. The aim of this course is to provide staff with adequate training in the basic principles of food hygiene. Successful Participants will receive “A certificate from the Environmental Health Officers Association” The Certificate is valid for 5 years, refresher training is advised after 5 years.

Sligo Leitrim Food Forum – Sligo Park Hotel, 7pm Thursday 17th May 2012

Invitation to all food producers in the region to attend this forum.

Co-operation between food producers to build an alliance which will benefit all producers in the region.

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture, and Bord Bia will attend on the night. There will be an opportunity to mix with the speakers for half an hour before siting down to talk about how to drive co-opreation and collaboration .

Bord Bia Regioinal Food Showcase will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone on Monday May 21st 2012.

The Showcase is for all Border, Midland and West counties.

Bord Bia would like to encourage new producers to come to this event.

FETAC level 5, Food Safety & HACCP Course

Participants taking part in this programme will gain a thorough understanding of the Principles of HACCP and Prerequisite requirements and how they may be applied to ensure Food Safety, have the ability to take a lead role in the application of HACCP principles in their own production environment by developing a HACCP plan incorporating a Process Flow Diagram, Process Flow Description, Hazard Analysis and identifying Critical Control Points. Participants also complete coursework based on a case study or in house company project as part of this program.

St Angela’s College, Sligo hosted the All-Island Cookery Competition finals of Take Away - My Way, an event organised and supported by the College and by safefood.
The Home Economics Department at the College, safefood and the expert judging panel, including celebrity chef Neven Maguire congratulated all 16 finalists in each of the two competitions. On the 12th and 13th of March, the finals took place at St Angela’s College, Sligo with the following winners announced:
Winners- Junior Competition

• 1st Place: Laura Stack, Hazelwood College, Dromcollagher, Co Limerick
• 2nd Place: Lee Gregory, Piper’s Hill College, Naas, Co Kildare
• 3rd Place: Emma Redmond, St Angela’s College, Co. Cork
